Common Misconceptions About European Makes

Whether you drive a brand new Mercedes, a vintage BMW, or a sporty Ferrari in Arlington, TX, your European vehicle is a finely crafted piece of machinery. With such a high-quality car, does it only take the dealership to take care of it? Let's go over three common myths about European vehicles and how they can be affecting your time, wallet, and choices.

Myth 1: You have to go to the dealership for every service.

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act states that you don't need to take your vehicle to the dealer for routine maintenance to maintain a warranty. The dealer can't void the contract with consumers as long as the maintenance is done on time. Specialty shops like ours care for your car just as much (if not more) than the dealership, and we are here to protect your investment. Euro Car Tech provides higher quality service and price!

Myth 2: All European vehicles need premium fuel to run at peak performance.

People often associate premium fuel with better gas mileage and engine power. And it goes without saying if you drive a premium vehicle, shouldn't you use premium gas? Well- unfortunately, that is not always the case. The fuel your car needs to run at its best will always be the grade your manufacturer recommends. If your car is intended to run on lower octane gas, loading it up with premium-grade will only be a waste of your money. Consequently, if your owner's manual lists the premium gas requirement, you should follow the recommendation. Using less than a premium grade gasoline can lead to engine knocking, which is caused by gas that spontaneously combusts before the spark plug has a chance to burn it.

Myth 3: European cars can go up to 25,000 miles between each oil change.

Oil companies and dealerships often claim that your car will hardly ever need an oil change with more efficient, cleaner engines and scientific advancements. Despite the expert engineering that developed European vehicles and the creation of synthetic oils, you should change your oil based on the interval listed in your owner's manual.
